Mise-en-scene blog tasksđź’•

 1) Find a distinctive still image and write an analysis of the mise-en-scene. Use each of the aspects you've learned in the lesson.

In this still image we can clearly see this is from an action/ sci fi movie. The lighting is dull and dark which gives off a gloomy feel. His makeup includes blood on his face and the makeup arist has made it look dirty which connotes hes been fighting and now hes hurt himself as the blood is dripping down his face. Sci-Fi films are very futuristic and by the look on this still image it looks very futuristic.

2) Find TWO film or TV extracts on YouTube from different genres (e.g. horror, sci-fi, costume drama). Embed them in your blogpost and write a comparison of the mise-en-scene in each.

In this clip in gone girl we can see that the main protagonist is in a dull setting in a bathroom vigorously cutting her hair. This may connote that she's almost trying to get rid of her femininity by cutting her  hair as she states 'cool girl. men always use that don't they as their defining compliment. She's a cool girl. cool girl is hot...cool girl never gets angry at her men she always smiles' This perfectly illustrates to us that she's had enough of people bossing her around and from now on will call the shots on her own accord. She looks independent and strong and is almost reversing gender norms to fit her own criteria of what it is to be a women. Her body language is serious as if she has plan up her sleeve and is ready to act on it. The use of the scissor (the prop) may imply that she's dangerous and  may possible harm someone or even herself. However in MAMA MIA we can perfectly see the difference and that these clips have a complete different atmosphere. This is clearly shown between the contrasting  colour schemes and MAMA MIA is bright and colourful giving of summer vibes whereas Gone Girl is lifeless and mysterious vibe. In addition the use of different props suggests how gone girls target audience is a bit higher rather than MAMA MIA which would be around 12+
